How to Find New York City's Best French Bistros

New York City is home to some wonderful French bistros. Want a tasty spinach quiche? Sure. Want some mussels and fries? No problem. No matter where you are in New York City, you aren't far from a French bistro. Here are some great places to go in New York City if you're looking for some fine, casual French dining.

    Finding New York City's Best French Bistros

  1. Step 1

    Go to La Bonne Soupe. Located off of Fifth Avenue, this tiny, unassuming yet stylish French bistro has low roofs and an all-French staff. The ambiance is wonderful, and so are the quiches, soups, crepes, and omelets. This is a great place to have casual French fare and a good conversation with an old friend.

  2. Step 2

    Visit La Tour on the Upper East Side. This classy and charming French bistro has everything you could ever ask for. The moules-frites are exceptional, as are the steak and fries. This restaurant is a true slice of Paris, located right in the heart of New York City.

  3. Step 3

    Stop by Balthazar Restaurant on Spring Street. The bustling, spacious, and airy decor is reminiscent of many restaurants located in Paris. The menu is phenomenal, with everything from steak au poivre to escargots. Anything you could possibly ever want in France, you can get here. Be sure to check out the bakery as well.

  4. Step 4

    Go to Payard Patisserie on Lexington Avenue. This classy French bistro has been featured on the Food Network various times. With amazing desserts and pastries, this place is the place to be if you want an authentic French "patisserie" located in Manhattan. However, make sure to have your real meal first--the entrees are terrific. Be sure to try the bouillabaisse.

  5. Step 5

    Try Bistro Les Amis on Spring Street. This adorable red brick restaurant is a great place to have an intimate and cozy conversation with a friend. The menu is diverse-everything from seafood to meat to vegetarian classics. This place is a must-see if you're a French bistro lover in Manhattan.

  • There is no end to the amount of charming French bistros in New York City. Take a walk, especially in Soho or on the Upper East Side. You're bound to run into something truly wonderful.
  • French food can be fattening, so eat with caution The French stay thin by walking a lot, so maybe taking a nice walk after your tasty French meal is a good idea.
