Things You'll Need:
- Time to look
- Questions
-
Step 1
So your thinking of getting a tattoo huh, well congrats on that! I am currently in the process as well of getting one, hopefully by summer's end. Anyway, you may be asking where do I go, who do I see?? Well hopefully through this article, I can answer some of that for you.
-
Step 2
First off is the decision of what tattoo you think you would like. Do alot of research on this, this is the crucial part, because just about any artist can come up with something you would like. You need to know what you want, and where you want to put it. Don't be afraid to listen to ideas from your artist though, sometimes they might have a better thought on a design, or a place to put it that will grow old well with your body.
-
Step 3
Once you have found your design, and have an idea of what you want is to go looking around your town at the different tattoo parlors. Check in your phone book, or online and see all the different shops there are, cause I guarantee that there will be more than one where you live.
-
Step 4
Once you have found the shops in your area, go check them out. Don't worry about making an appointment this time, just walk in. Check it all out, take your design with you, if you don't have one, I can promise that they will have books and books of designs for you to look at. Ask questions, ask about their portfolio, artists should have a ready portfolio for you to look at.
-
Step 5
Ask about their sterilization process. Ask about how they open and dispose of their needles. This is all important, mostly for your health. Tattoo parlors have come along way in the last 10 or so years, so you want to make sure they are using a brand new, never opened needle every time, and that they dispose of it after use.
-
Step 6
Get to know the artist a little bit, ask for his/ her portfolio, ask to see his or her credentials, they should have them prominently displayed either in the lobby, or in their booth. Don't be afraid to ask for a tour of the facility. Once your satisfied with the look of everything, go ahead and go on to the next one, don't commit to anything yet.
-
Step 7
Go to the next shop on your list. Do exactly the same thing with this one as you did with the last. Again, don't commit to anything. Take a card if you liked their work and everything.
-
Step 8
Now, you have found the tattoo parlor, and the artist, great! Go ahead and give them a call and make an appointment to come in and talk about the design. Make sure it is everything you want, after all your the one that needs to have it for the next 50 to 60 years. If you want to get it done the same day, most will accommodate if they are not super booked, otherwise you might have to make another appointment for the later on in the week to have tattoo done. Whatever the case may be, good luck!
