Do you have tarnished silver utensils and jewelry? Cleaning that tarnish with the usual silver cleaners is a chore. I don't think anyone enjoys wearing rubber gloves to avoid chemical burns on your hands. Well, here is a quick, easy and eco-friendly solution. Best of all, you probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen right now.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • aluminum foil
  • metal mixing bowl or pan
  • table salt
  • dishwashing liquid
  • hot tap water
  1. Step 1

Take your metal bowl or pan and line the bottom with aluminum foil.

  2. Step 2

Add your silver items (silver necklaces, utensils or whatever you have).

  3. Step 3

Fill with enough hot water to cover your silver items completely.

  4. Step 4

Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid.

  5. Step 5

    Generously add your table salt.

  6. Step 6

Swish the mixture around for a minute or so and voila! Tarnish is gone.

  7. Step 7

Rinse with plain water and pat dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER DOING THIS OUTDOORS. THE CHEMICAL REACTION BETWEEN THE SALT AND THE FOIL ON THE METAL BOWL WILL EMIT A SLIGHT ROTTEN EGG TYPE ODOR.
  • Do not boil the water. Hot tap water is plenty sufficient.
