You can make your car tires last longer and it only takes just a few minutes every week with very little effort.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A little time
  • Some Driving skills
  • an air guage
  • Some Common Sense
Step1
Everything rides on them So you went ahead and made an investment of buying that car you wanted. It had everything on it you wanted. The color, the interior, the stereo, the engine, the wheels, man it looks cool. The thing of it is, everything you have is riding on the tires. People have a tendency to ignore the tires alot of time until it is too late. It is so easy to just go out and get it the car or truck and take off. You don't walk around the vehicle before you leave you just go. We all do it all the time. If one of your tires was low on air you wouldn't even know it until it went flat on the road or maybe at you first stop. It only takes a second to walk around your car before you leave. You might even see something else wrong with your car that you didn't know about.
Step2
They shoud wear evenly Check the tire pressure in your tires regularly. If you don't have a tire gauge you should buy one. They don't cost very much and you can check the pressure yourself very quickly or have someone else do it for you. The correct tire pressure is stamped into the sidewall of the tire so you know how much air should be in the tire. Always check the pressure when the tires are cold.
Low air pressure sometimes is hard to detect because radial tires squat down alittle and look like they may be alittle low on air so you have to check them with a gauge to make sure. There are alot of tire places around that will check your tire pressure for you if you ask them to for free especially if you are a woman. Low tire pressure is one of the leading causes of tire wear and can be prevented.
ROTATING YOUR TIRES is another good idea to keep your tires wearing evenly. Most all tire shops do it and it doesn't take very long or cost very much to have it done. This too is something most people just don't know or bother to take the time to do.
Step3
Check your alignment Another good thing to do is have the FRONT END ALIGNMENT checked every 6 months or so. That curb you hit last week or all those pot holes you seem to be hitting lately are not doing your front end alignment any good. In fact it has probable thrown it out alittle and you don't even know it. Your tires start to wear alittle funny and you don't know why. So having the front end checked every 6 months or so will catch that and save your tire wear.
The way cars are made now a days with high performance packages speed and handling are very important to the consumer. Those things are contributing factors for tire wear so everything you can do yourself will help to prevent premature tire wear.
Man i know it is fun to break those tires loose sometimes and just lay a patch of rubber down but it cost you dearly when you go in to buy new tires. Try to hold back.
Step4
Keep it straight Something else that can cause tire wear are WARN OUT SHOCKS. If your shocks are wearing out your tires might start cupping or your car might seem like it is alittle bouncy. That is when you stop your car might keep moving up and down alittle. If you think your shocks are going out you should have them replaced.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you go in to buy new tires for your car or truck try to buy the best tire you can for the vehicle. Those cheap tires they advertise are just that "CHEAP". You will pay alittle more but you tires will last a lot longer but more importantly the safety of your family or passengers has to be considered. Weather you have a custom hot rod or just the family car the tire care should rate right up there on the top of the list.
  • Don't take your tires for granted. They could save your life one day. One blow out on the freeway could be a nightmare. Tires aren't cheap so do your homework.

on 7/16/2008 oh... also make sure to mention that car owners check the date of their tire's expiration date, often stamped on the sidewalls of the car in julian date code format. if it has been over 5 years since they have been made, toss 'em!
