Step 1
Give your boyfriend or girlfriend some time alone during the races, even if that means skipping your standard Saturday night date because there’s a night race on television. Trying to watch a race with a non-fan can be a big problem, especially if that person likes to talk about your relationship!
-
Step 2
Let your NASCAR fan vent after a race. There’s nothing worse than watching your favorite driver crash out of the race because another driver put him in the wall, or watching that driver run out of gas on the last lap after leading most of the race. Give them at least a few hours to get all of their frustration out before you do anything or say anything.
-
Step 3
Feign interest in the sport even if you have absolutely no interest at all. That means pretending that you care about the history of the track or the last time that a specific driver won a race. All you need to do is nod your head and be as polite as possible.
-
Step 4
Ask questions to learn a little more and you might be surprised at just how interesting NASCAR can be. The next time your boyfriend or girlfriend starts talking about a “stop and go” or a “pass through penalty”, stop and ask what that means.
-
Step 5
Watch a race with your significant other and turn that into your date night. Kick back on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn, some pizza, and a nice cold six-pack and just watch what happens. If your significant other’s favorite driver wins the race, you might even be in for a little surprise afterwards!
-
Step 6
Buy NASCAR related items for their birthday or as a Christmas present. Check out the official NASCAR website to take a look at their store and see what they have to offer. You might have to look through your fan’s collection to figure out what they already have before you buy.
-
Step 7
Volunteer to spend some time with them at a race, or even buy two tickets to the track closest to your house. All NASCAR fans know how exciting it is to sit in the stands and watch a race up close and personal. You might even turn into a convert after seeing a race for yourself!
