Leave the Bandage on

Leave the bandage on for four hours, at least, after getting a tattoo.

Wash the tattoo after removing the bandage. Using a mild soap and only your hands, gently clean the tattoo and surrounding area. Wash off any glue that was left on the skin from the bandage. Do not put another bandage on.

Wash the area twice the first day after getting the tattoo. Do not put anything on it while it dries out.

Start using antibiotic ointment on the tattoo on the second day. Some people at the tattoo parlor may tell you to put the ointment on immediately after going home, but this will fade the tattoo. Give it a day to completely dry out and then start putting the ointment on the area. Try to stay away from the Bacitracin because some people have developed an allergy to it. Check the antibiotic ointment to make sure that it doesn't contain the Bacitracin.

Tips & Warnings
Do not use Vaseline because it is too heavy.
Use conditioning lotion instead of ointment in warm weather. Your tattoo needs to breathe.
Do not put the ointment on very heavily.
Do not soak the tattoo in the tub or shower for too long until it completely heals.
It is okay to get it wet, but not soaking wet.
Tattoos can take anywhere from seven to 10 days to heal.
Keep tattoo away from chlorine, salt, alcohol and sun for the first 10 days.
Check the ingredients for the conditioning lotion you will be using. Find one that is alcohol free.
