Using clean hands, carefully clean the area daily with a sea salt water solution or antibacterial soap, taking care not to get into the eyes. Use a new soft toothbrush if necessary to gently clean away any crusting that may begin to form around the jewelry. Pat the area dry with a clean tissue or paper towel.

Apply a small amount of lavender oil to the pierced area after cleaning to help promote healing. It lubricates the area and helps reduce scar tissue.

    • 3

Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, betadine or tea tree oil to clean the pierced area. These products may seem like good choices for cleaning and disinfecting the area, but they are harsh to healing skin.

If you have long hair, try to pin it back to keep it from touching your piercing. Your hair holds bacteria and can transfer it into the pierced area.
