How to Make Gardenia Perfume

The soft, sweet scent of gardenia can be made into a simple perfume at home. The gardenia scent is thought to attract love to the wearer, as well as help you see clearly in the face of challenges. Gardenias bloom in many parts of the world and is highly fragrant. If you are lucky enough to have a blooming gardenia plant, you can use the blooms to make a perfume. Otherwise, gardenia essential oil will do.Follow the steps below to make your own gardenia perfume.

Things You'll Need

• 2 tbsp spring water
• 4 cups fresh chopped gardenia blossoms or 10 drops of Gardenia essential oil
• 2 oz. of 100 proof vodka
• Mortar and pestle
• Glass mason jar
• Cheesecloth
• paper coffee filter
• Small empty glass perfume bottle

Instructions

Homemade Gardenia Perfume

1. If you are using gardenia blooms, mash them up with a mortar and pestle.

2. Add vodka and mashed gardenia blooms or essential oil to a glass mason jar. Stir the mixture slowly for three minutes.

3. Cover the mouth of the jar with cheesecloth. Screw the lid on the jar.

4. Let the mixture stand for 48 hours, then add the spring water. Stir slowly.

5. Let the mixture stand for another 48 hours. Test the fragrance. If it is too light, let the mixture stand for a week or so. If the fragrance is too strong, add more spring water to the mixture.

6. Pour the mixture into an empty perfume bottle. If you used gardenia blooms, you might want to use a coffee filter to strain out the mixture.
