Urethritis involves the urinary tract in males. Symptoms often include dysuria (painful urination), frequent urge to urinate, low abdominal pressure, and blood in the urine. You might also experience penile discharge. Urethritis should not be confused with sexually transmitted diseases. See your doctor, however, for a complete examination and diagnostic testing. Check your symptoms. If you have pain when you urinate, blood in your urine, low abdominal pain, and need to urinate frequently, you might have urethritis.

Call your doctor. You need to have a urinalysis and other tests performed as well as a complete physical examination.

Allow your doctor to perform diagnostic tests. Urinating in a cup is easy. Letting the doctor swab the inside of your penis is harder. If your doctor wants to culture your cells, allow him to do so. He may also perform a rectal exam to check your prostate.

Take prescribed medicines. Urethritis is a bacterial infection and you need antibiotics to heal. Finish your medicine even if you are feeling better.

Drink fluids. Water is the drink of choice and you need to consume at least eight glasses daily. The fluids will help to flush toxins from your body.
