Tired of trying to use napkin rings to show off your sophistication to your friends? Learning to fold napkins is one way to get rid of those napkin rings. Using the cone fold, you can have an impressive shaped napkin that will also hold your silverware. Make your next dinner party a success, and if it isn't, at least your napkins were pretty.

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 square napkin cloth
  • Iron (optional)

    Fold Dinner Napkins

  1. Step 1

Lay your napkin face down on a table (or flat surface) in front of you. You can iron the napkin to ensure it has no creases if you want.

  2. Step 2

Fold the napkin over once diagnolly. Two of the corners should now be touching.

  3. Step 3

Turn the napkin so that the open end is facing away from you. You should be oriented so that the napkin looks like an arrow that is pointing away from you.

  4. Step 4

Fold the left hand corner upwards so that it is resting on the top corner.

  5. Step 5

Repeat step four with the right hand corner. This fold should be even with the other fold. The napkin should now resemble a diamond from your position.

  6. Step 6

Turn the napkin onto its other size. The open ends should still be facing away from you.

  7. Step 7

Fold the bottom third of the napkin upwards. This fold should be even so that the tip of the part you folded up is pointing directly towards the top corner of the napkin. It is best to iron the napkin now so it will keep its shape.

  8. Step 8

Fold the left and right corners of the diamond shape of the napkin evenly under the napkin. If you fold the right side under first, you can fold the left side into the crease in the back. Now place the napkin on the table or a plate. Your silverware can be placed into the pouch created by the folds.
