Operating a daycare can be a great way to fulfill a passion for children. You can ensure that you provide the best daycare in your area by mastering the different operations involved with running a daycare. This includes learning how to create a daycare schedule.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Consider the age of children in your daycare. The first thing you should do when planning a schedule for your daycare center is take into account what age of children you have in your facility. If you have multiple ages you may need to create multiple schedules, since babies don't eat and nap at the same time which toddlers or older children do.
Step2
Start with meal and snack time. Keeping the children in your daycare happy should be your number one goal. Children often get cranky when they are hungry, which is why it is important to break every few hours to replenish. You should begin organizing your schedule by determining when you will be serving lunch as well as when you will have snack time.
Step3
Schedule a time for naps. Right behind food in importance is naps, and the amount of time needed for a nap will vary based on what age of children you have in your daycare. You should create a separate space in your daycare specifically for naps, thus children will have a much easier time sleeping and not being distracting during the appointed time.
Step4
Provide time to go outdoors and play. Being outdoors provides children with the freedom to run and play, which cannot always be accomplished indoors in small spaces. Just remember that safety is important when children are outside, thus you should have a fenced play area as well as age-appropriate outdoor activities.
Step5
Plan for a variety of different activities throughout the remainder of the day. Once you have established the meal, snack, nap and outdoor times you can schedule the rest of the day. There should be a number of different activities that engage the children and help stimulate their brain development and growth.

Tips & Warnings

  • In addition to lunch and snacks you may need to schedule breakfast or an evening meal depending upon the hours that your daycare is open.
  • It is important to be consistent with the schedule of children as this helps them know what to expect.
