Acquire the right tools for the job. You will need to get a proper measurement of the room or area that you will be installing the new flooring into, a table saw that will be able to cut smooth edges and an accurate tape measure.

Purchase enough material. After you have completed the measurements of the room including closets and hard to reach places you will need to determine how much wood you will need to properly put in your new floor. In many cases, it is a suggestion to go about 20% more than is actually necessary this is to account for discoloration as well as mistakes or possible later occurring damage to the room wood.

Prepare the floor for the job. Make sure that the floor is free of dents and debris before you proceed with the installation. A hole or divot is not coverable by this type of flooring and will need filling.

Leave a gap of 5/16” along all walls as you install the flooring starting from the furthest point from the door. You will want to make sure that you are staggering the joints on the floor as you will want to create a tighter bond between the wood and to allow for the to lock into place better. Make sure to use a rubber mallet to lock wood pieces into place as this will leave no marks as opposed to a hammer, which will chip away at the wood and cause splintering.

Place the baseboards back where they belong as well as any thresholds that were there. You should allow any glue you used to dry for 24 hours before walking in the room as well as sweeping the wood floor before finishing.
