Do some research. Find out exactly what types of enzymes work on what types of food or compound. If you are aware of something in your diet that you have trouble digesting, find an enzyme that will aid in that particular food.

    • 2

Remember that enzymes can help break down food in the stomach and digestive tract. If you experience some discomfort such as gas, or bloating in the beginning, don't stop taking them. Your "gut" is changing and becoming healthier.

    • 3

Begin slowly. Start with one enzyme before each meal. Try to take your enzymes about 15 minutes before meals. Some people like to begin with one enzyme before each meal, snack or drink. You may work up to that gradually.

After you notice some improvement in digestion you can start taking enzymes between meals. Enymes (proteases) taken between meals can aid symptoms of allergies, autoimmune disorders, can help detoxify and cleanse the body and have even been reported to help migraine pain. Stronger enzymes taken at the onset of a cold or flu can assist the body in eliminating the symptoms quickly.

Experiment. No two bodies are the same. Try enzymes out slowly and note the results. Keep at it for a few weeks and you're bound to see noticeable improvements in your overall health.
