Adding a Blogger RSS Feed To Your Sidebar

  1. Step 1

Capture the URL of the blog rss feed you'd like to add to your site. If the feed is located in your bookmarks or toolbar, simply right-click on the entry and check its "properties." Copy and paste this URL into a notepad document or just write it on scratch paper. It will look no different from another URL except it will probably have the word blog in it somewhere.

Log on to your Blogger Dashboard and select which blog you'd like to add a blog RSS feed to. Click on the word "Layout" in the manage tools listed on the lower right hand corner of your blogger control panel. The Layout Screen shows you a graphic representation of your blog design and allows you to manipulate the presentation of your blog and to add and delete elements from the sidebar, header and footer and sometimes within the posting area.

  3. Step 3

Click on the words "add an element" At the top of the sidebar area. If you choose to add the blog feed to the top or bottom, you can move it away from the sidebar later simply by dragging and dropping it elsewhere. To get started, though you'll be adding it to the sidebar.

Insert the URL for the blog feed you plan to insert in the box that shows on the next screen. Be sure to include http:// otherwise it won't work. Entering it here will tell blogger which blog feed to retrieve and allow you to move on to the next screen where you can manipulate the presentation of the feed

Select how many posts you'd like to display and if you'll like the author and date to accompany the titles. Consider the width of your sidebar, because there might not be enough room for everything and you'll want the blog rss feed to be readable so that people click on it.

  7. Step 7

Be sure to save your changes and view your blog after you've added the blog rss feed. Now that you've been through the steps you'll know how to make changes to the presentation. If you have several blogs this is a good way to link them together. It's also a great way to share your favorite blogs with your readers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider using an outside blog rss feed server, like feedburner so that you can track your new subscribers and learn what they're clicking on.
  • Be cautious about directing readers away from your site. If you have several sites it's a good idea to keep readers with you by allowing them the option of clicking over to your other blog feed instead of someone else's.
