Essential oils are the main ingredient in many crafts including: homemade soaps, potpourri, candles, and scented oils. Making your own essential oils is easy and fun; all it takes is time, patience, and a few easy steps.

    Making Natural Essential Oil

  1. Step 1

    Pack 1 cup of the flower petals into the measuring cup.

  2. Step 2

    Bruise the petals by mashing them with the wooden spoon.

  3. Step 3

    Pour the petals in the bowl and add the almond oil.

  4. Step 4

    Mix thoroughly, cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and let stand over night in a cool dark place.

  5. Step 5

    Strain the mixture using the cheesecloth, discard the petals and return the oil to the bowl.

  6. Step 6

    Repeat the steps 3 times using the same oil, the entire process should take 4 days.

  7. Step 7

    Funnel the essential oil into the dark brown bottles or vials and seal. The oil can be stored in a cool dark place up to 12 months.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use a variety of different flowers or herbs to create essential oil. Try rose, lavender, cinnamon, lemon balm, or mint.
  • Mix the essential oil with a burning oil for a warm oil room freshener or simply pour the oil in a shallow dish and let stand.
  • Essential oils are very potent, use only a few drops at a time.
