Rockabilly music kicked off in the late 1950’s in major cities such as Jackson, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee. Musicians would gather together for concerts and festivals. The country singers would bring their lyrics, the blues singers would bring their vocal variations and the rockers would bring the bass and guitar. Eventually, all of the styles melted together to form what is now known as Rockabilly music. Rockabilly brought together many unique individuals with specific tastes. These steps will teach you how to date a rockabilly.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know how to party like a rock star. Rockabilly followers love to party it up. It doesn’t matter where they are. If there is a guitar, vocalist and a desire to make music, the party is going on. Be prepared to party like a rock star, but know when to keep it country.

  2. Step 2

Be passionate about the music. In order to date a rockabilly you have to embrace his or her feelings and passion about the music. The main thing that a rockabilly thrives on is the music. Without that connection, you’re better off finding someone else.

  3. Step 3

Be in touch with your hillbilly roots. The word rockabilly means part rock ‘n roll and part hillbilly. Hillbilly is a reference to the country roots. Basically, a rockabilly likes to play like a rock star, but he or she never fails to recognize his or her country roots.

  4. Step 4

Know the rockabilly hall of fame musicians. Some of the most famous artists throughout music history are key figures in the development of rockabilly music. Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins are just a few of the most famous artists who performed rockabilly music. While you may never be quizzed on any of the famous names, you’re sure to impress your potential squeeze with your knowledge about the genre.

  5. Step 5

Own the right clothes. Since rockabilly music evolved in the late 50’s and early 60’s, a lot of rockabilly fashion is influenced by that time period. For both men and women, a leather jacket is an absolute must-have fashion accessory. Capris are popular for women. Since the rockabilly style is a little old school, vintage is the way to go. Enjoy dating that rockabilly!

Tips & Warnings
  • Shop local vintage stores and thrift stores to find rockabilly clothes. You will find some great deals!
  • Do not call a rockabilly a hillbilly. The ‘billy’ portion of rockabilly refers to country music as a genre not the people who inhabit the area. Some individuals may take offense to being called a hillbilly.
