How to Distort a Photo Using Microsoft Digital Image Software

Creating and print an unusual photo for your home is a lot of fun. Having a different photograph hanging in your home of your children or family will get your family and friends talking. They will probably want one just like the one you created. This article will explain how you can create a distorted photo for your walls or photo albums.

  1. Distorting a Photograph with Microsoft Digital Image Software

      Click on the "Digital Image Software" icon. The digital image software will probably be on your desktop or in a file folder of your choosing. With the software open, you will see the start up window. Click on any of the icons you see in this window to bring up the photo or photos you want to use. Usually, any photo you want to use will already be found in a folder on your desktop.

      Click on "Effects." When you find the photo or photos you want to use, that photo will appear in full view in the digital image software program. Under the first toolbar at the top of the software program page, click on "Effects." With the "Effects" link open, a drop down list will appear and fifteen different photo options will appear for you to use. For this particular photo project, you will want to scroll down until you see the word "Distort."

      Click on "Distort." With the "Effects" drop-down list open, look for the "Distort" link. Once you have opened it, your photo will appear on the right side of the page, while the "Distort" features will appear on the left side.

      Click on each "Distort" feature. With more than 15 different ways your photo may be distorted, being able to distort a photo is something fun to do and can be a fun gift for a family or friend. On each "Distort" button you click on, you can also fine tune the "Distorted" photo starting at -96 all the way to 100. There is nothing that cannot be done with this fun feature to make your photo stand out when family and friends come to your home.

      Choose a way to distort your photo. Each of the 15 ways to distort your photo or photos have names to them. Whenever you place your mouse cursor over the "Distort" button, the name of that particular button will show up. The photo here was distorted using the Kaleidoscope button. If you no longer want to distort your photo, just click the cancel button at the bottom of the page. Or, if you change your mind and still want to use this particular distort button but do not want to ruin the original photo, make sure to add a number or letter at the end of the photo when you click the "Save As" button. This will ensure the original photo is not changed.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to keep the original photo, add a number after the original photo to make a separate distorted photo for your project.
