Storing knives in a kitchen drawer can chip and dull the blades of a kitchen knife. It is important that you invest in a wood block for safe keeping of your good kitchen knives.Putting dirty knives into a knife block can trap food particles and cause bacterial growth that can make you sick. If this is your problem, there is a way to clean out the crumbs inside your knife block.

    How to Keep a Knife Block Clean

  1. Step 1

    Hand wash all your knives by hand. Let them air dry on their own. If you put your knives into your wood block dirty, food will get trapped and cause a bacterial growth.

  2. Step 2

    Dump your knife block upside down so the slots for the knives are facing downward. Shake all the crumbs you can from the knive block.

  3. Step 3

    Take a computer key cleaner that blows a short blast of air and spray into the slots. This should get more crumbs out.

  4. Step 4

    Add one teaspoon of bleach to a quart spray bottle and spray this bleach water into the holes of the knife block.

  5. Step 5

    Spray water from your kitchen sink or garden hose into the slots where knives are kept and rinse off the bleach.

  6. Step 6

    Air dry the knife block on your kitchen counter.
