How to Treat Chronic Gout

Gout is an extremely painful condition in which the body loses its ability to successfully process urine and liquid waste. The result is an increase in uric acid in the blood, which basically becomes crystallized urine. This crystallization settles in certain joints of the body, focusing mainly on the smallest joints. Typically patients with gout experience swelling, pain, and redness of the large toe. If you suffer from chronic gout, you don't have to sit back and live your life in pain. There are some things you can do to help yourself find relief. This article will explain the various methods you can use to treat chronic gout pain.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a dose of 450mg of celery seed extract in the morning and before going to bed at night. This severely decreases the amount of uric acid in the blood and decreases inflammation of the joints.

    • 2

Eat 30 cherries when you first start feeling gout pain. These can be fresh or frozen, and they can be of any variety. Cherries also help the body maintain an acceptable amount of uric acid. They also repair tissue destroyed by gout right next to the joints.

    • 3

Take your right thumb and rub the outside of your left hand right between the pinky finger and wrist. Firmly rub this area in small circles for about 4-5 minutes, twice a day. This is an acupressure technique.

    • 4

Eat a handful of blueberries and a handful of strawberries when you start feeling gout pain. Blueberries work to decrease inflammation while strawberries work to neutralize the uric acid in your body. When eaten together, they prove to be, not only delicious, but also quite healing.

    • 5

Apply a cold compress to the painful joint area for five minutes. After, place a warm heating pad on the joint for five minutes. This will not get rid of the gout, but it will help you deal with the pain until other remedies get rid of the extra uric acid in your blood.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prevent gout by drinking plenty of water. Six to eight glasses of water daily should help greatly.

  • Pregnant women should not consume celery seeds because it could cause uterine contractions.
