Insect bites and stings are a downside of summer. There are plenty of chemical repellents, but many people have started to question the safety of using these products repeatedly. Fortunately for those who are concerned about the use of insecticides, there are some excellent natural alternatives. In this article we will show you how to keep bugs out of the house naturally.
Things You'll Need
- Large citronella candles
- Fennel oil
- Clove oil
- Geranium oil
Use citronella candles to keep the bugs at bay. Many claim that the effects of these candles are short, as little as 20 minutes. However, there are large citronella candles that keep burning for long periods of time.
Spray fennel oil in your home. Fennel oil contains compound that insects hate. It has been proven to reduce the amount of insects by nearly 80 percent. It is also completely non-toxic.
Use clove oil for a fresh smell while driving insects away. Spray the clove oil into the air. Start in the rooms where you see the most insects. This should clear them out and leave your room smelling great. Clove oil can also be used on the skin for a repellent, but should be diluted first. Using straight clove oil can cause skin irritation, itching and burning.
Use geranium oil to keep the bugs away. As with the clove oil, spray into the air where the insects seem most concentrated. This should send them packing.
Buy ready-made natural sprays and creams designed to keep the population of insects way down, leave your home smelling fresh and not harm the planet or the health of those in your home. Avon's Skin So Soft is highly recommended for adults and children.
