How to Make a Flapper Costume
When you think of the 1920s, flappers may be one of the first images that comes to mind. Flappers were considered a "new breed" of women who enjoyed a promiscuous lifestyle--drinking, smoking and doing as they pleased. The flapper is one of the most popular costumes for Halloween, speakeasy parties and other costume parties.

1
Add fringe around the top and bottom of the slip or nightgown with a hot glue gun. If you want a dress that lasts longer, sew on the fringe.

2
Make a simple headband by buying an elastic band and gluing sequins to it, or purchase a ready-made shiny headband. Glue a feather to the inside ring of the headband. Make sure the band circles the width of your head and goes over the top of your hair rather than underneath.

Tips & Warnings
Choose a bold, rich color for the slip or nightgown. Black, red, purple and gold are all good choices.
Add to your costume by holding a long-stem cigarette, if you wish.
To vary your costume a bit, wear a floppy hat or add lace instead of fringe.
Long, wispy false eyelashes are a glamorous complement to this look.
It can be a good idea to wear shorts under the costume to ensure you don't show too much skin.
