Instructions On Changing The Amount Of Days Internet Explorer Keeps History

  1. Step 1

Decide how many days you want Internet Explorer to keep these histories before deleting them. Sometimes you might be doing research and want to save your history to be able to find website you have visited recently.

  2. Step 2

Open Internet Explorer, and mouse up to where it says Tools above the toolbar.

  3. Step 3

Click on Tools, and drop to the bottom where it says Internet Options.

  4. Step 4

Select Internet Options, and a window will open with several tabs--you want it to display the General tab.

  5. Step 5

Look at the second section--it is labeled History, with buttons for Delete and Settings. Click on Settings.

  6. Step 6

Search for the display that tells you how many days it keeps pages in history - it will be at the bottom.

  7. Step 7

Input the desired number of days, or select ‘0’ if you do not want history saved. Click on OK, then OK again to close the previous window, or delete to delete the history already saved.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are working on a shared computer, you might want to set the number of days to zero so no-one can retrace your steps and try to hack in to any secure sites you visit that might have your personal information stored.
  • This does not always erase all files on certain operating systems. You may need to go into the favorites and clear the history there to completely eradicate the already saved history.
