Working on your lawn can be a daunting and annoying process and not many people actually enjoy doing this task. There are many contraptions available to help you water your lawn, spread pesticides or nutrients in a more efficient manner than simply walking your ground and sprinkling here or there. These contraptions are called "Pressurized Lawn Sprayers" and they are not expensive in the least. These sprayers can also be useful while making a film, especially a horror movie when you need to get a blood spraying effect. These lawn sprayers have been used in the film industry for over a decade because they offer quiet operation that does not hinder the sound needed to make films work. This article will show you how to properly pressurize a lawn sprayer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pressurized Lawn Sprayer
  • Liquid to Spray
  • Place to Spray
  • 4 Containers Light Corn Syrup
  • Red Food Coloring
  • 1 Gallon of Water
  • Bucket
  • Wooden Spoon

    Pressurizing a Lawn Sprayer

  1. Step 1

Clean all parts of the sprayer thoroughly and make sure each part is clean, especially the rubber valves.

  2. Step 2

Fill the pressurized sprayer to the maximum amount of liquid allowed by the manufacturer.

  3. Step 3

Begin pressing down the plunder at the top of the pressurized lawn sprayer. Continue pressing under the pressure indicator cap begins to move out. Once it goes from red to yellow you are approaching the maximum pressure that your specific container allows.

  4. Step 4

    Fill your sprayer container

  5. Making and Using a Blood Mixture

  6. Step 1

Prepare the bucket by rinsing it out completely and making sure it is dry and free from any dust particles.

  7. Step 2

Heat a gallon of water to near boiling and add to the bucket.

  8. Step 3

Stir the water as you begin to pour in the corn syrup and continue until both containers are empty. You may dip the bottles into the hot water in order to further dissolve the contents.

  9. Step 4

Add your food coloring as you stir until you get the right red consistency.

  10. Step 5

Fill your sprayer container to the desired level with your "blood" mixture and pressurize the sprayer.

  11. Step 6

Spray your desired area at full pressure from a 45 degree angle pointing upward and allow to dry before filming.

Tips & Warnings
  • The more strain you need to press down the plunder is a good indicator of the pressure you have built up.
  • It is better to under fill your pressurized lawn sprayer than to over fill it.
  • Spraying alleviates pressure.
  • If you want a realistic arterial spray for your movie use half pressure.
  • If you want arterial spray begin spraying as the camera is rolling and film toward the direction of the spray on an angle.
  • Do not exceed the maximum pressure on the lawn sprayer because you can damage the sprayer or make it burst.
