What goes great with fried eggs? Toast to sop up the egg yolks afterwards. With eggs in a pocket you get your eggs in your toast. This is a fun breakfast for kids and one they can help make. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Eggs
  • Bread
  • Butter
  • Non-stick spray
  • 1 frying pan/skillet
  • A small plastic or glass cup

Instructions

  1. How to make Eggs in a Pocket

    • 1
      Bread with center cut out

      Place a piece of bread on a cutting board, plate or other clean, smooth surface. Take a small cup with the brim side down and place it in the center of the bread. Press down, turning the cup clock-wise. Gently lift the cup from the bread and remove the cut out center setting it aside for later.

      Melting butter in a frying pan/skillet

      Spray a frying pan or skillet with non-stick cooking spray. Place a tablespoon of butter in frying pan/skillet and melt butter over low-heat.

      Egg cooking inside whole in bread

      Place bread in melted butter turning heat to medium. Carefully crack egg over hole in bread.

      Egg, done on bottom side, ready to be flipped

      When egg is firm on bottom side (side touching pan) flip the bread keeping the egg in the hole. When bread is browned on other side, flip again if needed or desired.

      Center of bread browning while egg cooks inside bread

      After flipping add piece of bread cut from center to pan and allow to brown. Cook until bread is a toasty golden brown and egg is cooked as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Children can help by cutting out the centers of the bread.

  • If fire is too high it can cause butter to “pop” and could cause burning and or blisters.

  • Supervise children when allowing them to help in the kitchen.

  • Place center of bread in area of pan with little butter to prevent it from becoming too saturated and uneatable.

  • Center of bread will brown quickly so keep a close eye on it and flip several times to get golden brown on both sides.
