The 180 caveman is a variation on the traditional caveman. The caveman is a skateboarding trick where you lift off the ground, usually from a standstill, by grabbing the tail of the board with your dominant hand. The 180 throws a twist on this popular move. It definitely takes it up a notch, and can make the caveman new again for skaters who have long performed the trick. The 180 caveman is a flashy jump trick when done properly. It is a known attention grabber, and one that helps separates the amateurs from the pros. Once you have perfected the caveman you can try this trick. It takes some time to get down, but once learned it is a reliable and impressive move.

How to Do a 180 Caveman

  1. Step 1

Grab the nose of the skateboard with whichever hand you feel most comfortable. This will most likely be your dominant hand (your right hand if you're right-handed and your left hand if you are left-handed).

  2. Step 2

Jump up while spinning your body in the direction you wish to move. You should be moving the board flat beneath your feet as you do this. The timing on this will take some time to get down, but don't get frustrated. Just keep working on it until you have it.

  3. Step 3

Release the tail of the skateboard once you have rotated 180 degrees.

  4. Step 4

Catch the board with your feet and land the trick.

  5. Step 5

Roll away if you are able. Rolling away will also take some time to perfect, so don't worry if you can't do it right away.

Tips & Warnings
  • It will probably be easier to do this trick off a ledge, especially when you're just starting out. However, this will make the trick considerably more dangerous, so be careful.
  • Learn how to do a caveman, and how to do a 180, before attempting to put them together in the 180 caveman. This will give you a strong base from which to build.
  • Skateboarding can be a dangerous activity. Make sure to wear proper protective gear and to always skate with others.
  • Performing the 180 caveman off a ledge will make it more dangerous, as you will have a longer way to fall. It can make the trick easier to do, but ledges should be avoided by beginning skateboarders who may be nervous about, and more prone towards, possible injury.
