   Ask your friends and family if they know of a good specialist for the condition. Ask their opinions of not only the good but also the bad. This will give you more information in case you don’t hear anything good about some of the doctors.

   Talk with the specialist’s office and see if they accept your insurance. Also take note to how they treated you when you called. Were they friendly or rude? Not that this reflects on the specialist but it could, and if you have good reports on more than one specialist, this could make the difference of which one you choose.

   Ask how the specialist performs the procedure and if it is the newest cutting edge way of performing it. Ask how long the specialist has been performing these procedures and how many approximately has he performed.

   Sometimes you have to choose a specialist that doesn’t accept your insurance. It could be because he is the only specialist you feel comfortable going to that does a certain procedure. If this is the case you will want to ask the office what the expected costs will be and if they have some sort of payment plan or if they accept credit cards.

   Consider traveling out of city or state for the services of a specialist for your condition. Sometimes you need to travel because either there isn’t a specialist for your condition in your area or there isn’t a good one.
