1. Write good articles with useful information. You could be the best writer in the world, but if your articles are about a subject that is not useful for the general public, you will get very little traffic. This is not to say that you cannot write articles that only five percent of people will be interested in, but you must also write enough general information articles to draw in the greater crowd.

2. Get to the point. Write in a concise, straight-forward manner that will allow the reader to quickly glean the information that he seeks. You can be clever and a bit flowery with your language, and it is appreciated but most are seeking information from your writing, not entertainment.

3. Write well. A few spelling errors and typos will be overlooked, but an abundance of them may cause a reader to second-guess your information and look elsewhere.

4. Write intriguing titles that attract without being too sensational. You need to write interesting titles that attract a large crowd. The article, however, must deliver what the title promises. For example, if you write a title that promises dirt on a celebrity, but the article basically says “just wanted to catch your eye”, you will anger your readers and they will not come back for more.

5. Respond to your readers. Whether you answer the comments of all your readers, or whether you write follow up articles that address readers' concerns, you need to show them that you care about their input. This will make them feel like valued readers and return again and again.
