A foaming face cleanser is the optimal choice for those with acne or oily skin. Most commercial foaming face cleansers dry and irritate skin because of the harsh ingredients. A homemade foaming face cleanser is an excellent choice for any skin type. The ingredients are gentle and effective, offering a moisture-balance effect on the skin. You can make your own foaming face cleanser at home and feel confident getting a pure, natural clean without irritation or dryness.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups fresh soapwort root (or 1 cup dried soapwort)
  • 1 cup dried rosemary
  • 1 cup dried mint
  • 1 qt. filtered water

How to Make a Foaming Face Cleanser

  1. Step 1

Prepare the soapwort root. If you are using fresh soapwort root, clean thoroughly and peel. The peeling will be easier if you soak it in water for at least an hour before peeling.

  2. Step 2

Boil the face foaming ingredients. Combine the soapwort root and herbs in a pan. Pour the water over the herbs and put a lid on the pan. Heat this on the stove and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 10-12 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Remove from the stove. Take the lid off of the pan and remove from heat. Set the pan aside and allow the pan to cool completely.

  4. Step 4

Strain the mixture. Use cheesecloth to strain your foaming face wash into a sterile cosmetic bottle with a pump. A pump bottle will manipulate the face cleanser better in serving the foaming function.

  5. Step 5

Apply the foaming face cleaner. Wet your face and apply two or three pumps' worth of foaming face cleanser onto the palms of your hands. Massage on your face for two minutes and rinse. Pat your face gently with a dry towel. Use the foaming face wash morning and evening.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the homemade cleanser within one month. Discard any unused portions and remake your foaming face cleanser. This ensures the foaming action and the quality of freshness.
  • This foaming face cleanser is gentle enough for even the most dry or sensitive skin.
  • Those who suffer from acne or have oily skin may use this foaming face cleanser three times a day. Try an extra ¼ cup of mint for severe acne break-outs.
  • Visit your local health food store to buy these ingredients.
  • Heat with caution and do not allow the mixture to boil over.
  • Homemade foaming face cleansers are natural and safe, but a rare reaction could occur. As with all herbs, use with care.
