How to Treat Sore Gums Naturally thumbnail
Calendula is a common garden herb that soothes and repairs sore gums.

Sore gums can be caused by a wide variety of oral health issues. Some causes may be as simple as brushing your teeth too hard, but more often sore gums are an indication of preliminary stages of gum disease. In order to relieve sore gums and heal them so that they will be more resiliant to gum disease, use natural remedies rather than over-the-counter treatments that may alleviate pain but do not actually remedy the problem. In this article, we will discuss how to treat sore gums naturally.

  1. How to Treat Sore Gums Naturally

    • 1

Boil 1 cup of hot water. The easiest way to do this is to microwave the water on high for two minutes in the glass measuring cup. If the water reaches a rolling boil before two minutes are up, remove it from the microwave and move on.

Echinacea's beautiful purple flower makes it popular in gardens. If you are using fresh herbs use 1/4 cup of each instead of 1/2 a teaspoon.

Steep the calendula and echinacea in the hot water for 20 minutes. This will create a strong infusion that will soothe and repair your gums.

    • 3

Strain out the dried herbs. You can catch the infusion in the plastic bottle for storage.

    • 4

Rinse twice daily with the mixture. Swish it thoroughly around your mouth for at least 60 seconds. Do not swallow the mixture. You can do this more often if your gums need additional relief.

    • 5

Brush and floss thoroughly every time you eat or drink something. This is vital to gum repair, since allowing food to sit on your teeth will further irritate your gums. Also, regular flossing and brushing builds up your gums' resistance to irritation so that they will be more resiliant to infection in the future.
