How to Treat Early Onset Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a lifelong condition in which patients withdraw from reality and live in a world of hallucinations, delusions, and disordered thinking/behavior. This condition requires lifelong treatment even though there may be periods in which the patient feels better. So what treatments are available for this condition?

Administer medication on a daily basis at the same time everyday to ensure medications are constantly in the body.

Don’t stop taking medication. Some medications have several side effects that you may not want to tolerate. Ask your doctor to prescribe a different medication.

Attend individual therapy (psychological therapy) to learn about methods for coping with this condition and methods for improving communication skills, relationships and your ability to work and stick to a treatment plan.

Attend family therapy to educate your family on what you’re going through and to enable them to help you stick to your treatment plan.

Plan for a relapse. Even with a great treatment plan, relapses are bound to happen.

Stop smoking if you smoke and stop drinking if you drink. Nicotine and alcohol interferes with medications.
