Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Floor mat
  • Rolled up towel
  1. Step 1

Ask the person that you are giving the neck massage to, to lie down on the floor, on their back. Use a mat to make this more comfortable.

  2. Step 2

Ask the person to take several deep breaths in order to relax.

  3. Step 3

Place a rolled up towel below the base of the neck, right at the top of the back.

  4. Step 4

Kneel above the person's head and turn it slightly in one direction. Gently rub the chest muscles. Carefully rub the neck down to the top of the back.

  5. Step 5

Turn the head to the other direction and repeat the above steps.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to rub the chest muscles when giving a massage. There is usually a connection between the muscles in the front of the body and the corresponding muscles in the back of the body.
  • When giving a massage, use the tips of your fingers to make small circles around the targeted muscles.
  • Take your time and work the muscles of the upper back and side muscles of the neck. Tension is often carried in these outer muscles.
  • Do not massage an area that is inflamed due to tissue damage.
  • Be careful to not turn the neck too far in either direction. Be gentle and pay attention to the comfort level of the individual you are giving the massage to.
