Music is the universal language. It's understood by all, and it is a thing of beauty to be preserved. Unfortunately, some of your favorite songs can become a rarity over time. Perhaps you heard your favorite artist sing a song in a club once, but an official recording was never made. Don't give up. It is possible to find rare songs online. Here's how to do just that.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look on popular, commercial websites first. Although it is not likely that you will find a rare song there, it's worth a shot. It can save you a lot of time and energy.

  2. Step 2

Look on sites like Limewire. Be careful when using shared sites as your computer could get a virus or bug, but there are many rare songs on these sorts of sites. As a plus, you can even get songs for free. Try typing in alternative spellings of the singer of the song. Some users enter in the wrong spelling of singers on purpose. Make sure you are respecting all copyright laws with your downloads.

  3. Step 3

Type in the name of the song you are seeking into the major search engines. If that does not provide much of a lead, type in the name of the artist alongside the name of the song. You can find song files this way that you can never find on music websites.

  4. Step 4

Send a mass email out to your friends asking for help. There is true power in numbers. Chances are, one of your friends may have the song. Alternatively, your friends will search for it, too. You will be very likely to find the song through this method.

  5. Step 5

Post a message at the singer's fan club website. If the singer has one, this is a great idea. Express how much you appreciate the artist, and ask if anybody can help you. An offer to pay is always appreciated. Just be sure to post your message in the appropriate part of the message board.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use your imagination and personal detective skills to branch out and find your song.
  • Don't pay for the download of any song without sampling it first unless you are certain it is the right song. Many songs share the same titles. Downloading the wrong song can lead to the waste of money and crushed hopes.
