How to Design a Triathlon Logo
Like many other sports logos, triathlon logos are simple in design. The only obstacle to executing a good logo is making sure you have the right tools and understand the nuances of working with color on screen versus in print.

1
Review programs from other triathalons, paying close attention to the logos. What do they look like? How many colors? Are they simple or elaborate?
-
2
Look at the participants in and theme of your triathlon. The main consideration for designing your logo will be which sports are in your event. Come up with a list of possible symbols for each sport and draw them.

Choose your vendor. Talk to them about their requirements, and ask them if they have a template they can give you to avoid any surprises. If you have more than one vendor, make sure that the colors you choose match in all processes. Also choose a graphic designer if you like and make sure they understand what you are trying to accomplish.

4
Make sure you have the right tools. Acquire Adobe Illustrator or you can use a computer at Kinko's. Get books if you don't feel comfortable using the program.
-
5
Create a new file in your chosen computer program. For Illustrator files, make sure it is set up as CMYK for a four-color logo or that PANTONE colors are open in the Swatches palette if it is two-color.
-
6
Save the file. Make sure you convert any text to outlines if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
* Have fun!
* If you don't feel comfortable with the software, hire someone. Printers have very strict requirements on the files they use.
* Do NOT use Microsoft Office. These programs do not contain the control that printers require in order to make things work.
