Things You'll Need:
- a moderately sized yard
- golf clubs
- plastic golf balls
-
Step 1
Assess your yard. How much space do you have? The bigger your yard, the more options you have as far as creating a course. But if you have a relatively small yard, you can still make it happen.
-
Step 2
Design your course layout. If you have a large yard, you might be able to have as many as nine holes. But most yards are suited for a three hole course. If this is the case in your yard, it would be best to have a par 3, par 4 and par 5. This makes your course more like a scaled down version of a real golf course.
-
Step 3
Choose what kind of hole(s) you will have. You have a couple options. You could make an actual hole in your yard, use some sort of drain as a hole or place a circular object (such as a hula hoop) on the grass. In the case of the hula hoop, you'd simply have to hit it into the circle for it to be considered "in the hole." An actual hole is best, but you might not want to put holes in your yard.
-
Step 4
Use plastic golf balls. You certainly don't want to be using a real golf ball unless you have several acres of land. A plastic golf ball is a suitable replacement. Also, you'll probably only need a pitching wedge or sand wedge. Again, this is for reduced distance since your yard is much smaller than an actual golf hole.
-
Step 5
Invite your friends and neighbors over and start playing! You can use various starting points for the same hole, or have different starting points as well as different holes. Keep score against your friends and keep track of the course record!
