Tulip bulbs are quite easy to grow and give such beautiful garden color for very little effort. They require nothing but water for annual bloom, as they have a very developed food storage ability. Even though they only bloom once a year, the leaves collect nutrients that provide for a burst of color each year. Bulbs that bloom in the spring include tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and crocus. To keep your tulip bulbs blooming each year, follow these planting tips:

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy disease-free bulbs from a reputable garden center or mail order company and dig out an area in which the bulbs will be planted and line with sturdy rodent-proof screening.

  2. Step 2

Apply fertilizer at the bottom of the area, then fill with potting soil and use a bulb planter to create individual bulb holes the correct depth and shape.

  3. Step 3

Water thoroughly and be sure the sufficient water is provided to get them started and in the spring, watch for signs of rabbits or other animals that love the taste of fresh green leaves! If you see signs that your tulips are providing food for animals, line the area with a small ornamental fence that has rabbit-proof screening. Very few other remedies are eco-friendly and work as well. Enjoy the bright colors that are the some of the first signs of spring!
