The warm weather is here and that means your kids will be spending much more time outdoors. But as your kids play outside and enjoy the warm weather, they’ll also be exposed to the bugs of the season.While it’s important to protect your kids from bug bites, all bug sprays aren’t created equal. So with with all the options available, how can you choose the best bug spray for your kids?

Decide what type of bug spray you'd prefer to use. Your options may include sprays, creams or liquids.

Look for a product that contains no more than 30 percent DEET. The American Academy of Pediatrics considers DEET the best protection against bug bites and recommends products for children to contain not more than 30 percent.

Read the instructions on the product of choice. Apply to kids clothing and to the skin that is exposed. Be sure to avoid getting bug spray in your kids' eyes. You'll also want to be careful with the palms of her hands, as she may rub her eyes and get bug spray in them.

Reapply as often as the directions state but only if neccessary. The effective length of time may vary depending on the amount of DEET that is in the product.

Tips & Warnings
When putting bug spray on a squirmy child or on a childs face, spray it on your hands and then rub it onto the child's skin.
Do not put buy spray on children under 2 months of age. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises against using bug spray on kids under 2 months old.
Do not apply bug spray indoors. The smell can be too harsh.
Do not purchase combination products that include both sunscreen and DEET.
