How to Find a Mate or Date
-
1
Join a community group such as the Jaycees. Look for a group where men and women have fun and work on projects together. Finding a mate or date is easier when you make connections with people over a period of time and while you are participating in activities you enjoy.

2
Use on-line dating services such as match.com or eharmony.com. Several people have met their lifelong mates on these sites. These are perfect for people who are a little shy because you get to know a person through email or instant messaging before you talk on the phone or in person. Craigslist.org has a personals section, also, and theirs is free.

Sign up for a speed dating night. Speed dating is when you go to a place and meet with prospective mates for about 5-10 minute "interviews." The emcee rings a bell or makes an announcement after a certain number of minutes, and you switch to a new table with a new prospective mate. After each person, you fill out a form on how well you liked him or her. If you both liked each other, you'll get each other's email addresses, so you can make a date.

Play a sport. There are several different sports that you can sign up for such as billiards, bowling, softball, tennis, golf, and volleyball. One of the best ways to find a mate or date is to participate in an activity you enjoy with other people who are also having fun. This will put you more at ease and give you something in common to talk about.

5
Get involved at a local church or with a local non-profit organization. Many churches have singles groups -- some are religious while others are just a group of nice people getting together to do activities together. Non-profit organizations often sponsor events that need volunteers, and this is a great way to meet a mate or date while doing a good deed at the same time.

6
Search your newspaper for events such as local festivals, art shows, or community days. These are usually full of people who mill around and talk to each other, especially the artists or craftsmen who want to sell their goods. When you go to these events, talk to all sorts of different people to find a mate or date.

Tips & Warnings
Find events or activities where you are comfortable and can be yourself. When you are at ease, it is easier to find a mate or date.
When using on-line dating sites, be smart until you are sure the person you are communicating with is genuine. Give out your cell phone number instead of your home number. Meet for the first time in a public place. You can never be too cautious. If your date is sincere, he or she will understand your caution.
