As the days get longer, people find themselves hosting outdoor parties and barbecues.

Decorate your summer party with these glow stick party decorations.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

Glow sticks
Craft knife
Card stock
String
Tracing pencil

Step 1

Create a butterfly template out of card stock. You will want to make sure the body of the butterfly is at least 1 1/2 inch wide. The butterfly should be at least six inches long.
Step 2

Trace your template onto a piece of brightly colored card stock. Carefully cut out the butterfly shape with a craft knife.
Step 3

Carefully cut slits in the butterfly body. The slits should be 1 1/2 inch wide and 1 1/4 inch apart.
Step 4

Snap and activate your glow stick. Slip it in the slit that you cut in your butterfly body. Tie a string through the top of the glow stick so that you can hang the decoration from a picnic umbrella or summer tree.

Tips & Warnings

Choose complimentary colors of glow sticks and card stock.
These look best when they are in great numbers. The more the better.
Take care when cutting out the butterfly bodies.
While most glow sticks are non-toxic, make sure that they are not hung in places, such as above the grill, that they may contaminate food or stain clothes.
