Don't be one of millions of poets who never gains exposure and will never make money from their passion. Publish your poetry online. Make an income. Gain a following.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Poem(s)
  • Internet
  • PayPal Account (for receiving)
  • Email Address
  1. Step 1

    SAMPLE POETRY

Take a look at a sample poem published on Triond. You may view a sample here: http://www.authspot.com/Poetry/Drifter-Prayer.140167 . Or, you may see resources below for more examples. Notice the published format. Think about how your own poem will look on such a page. Can you identify any potential problems with your work and the format?

  2. Step 2

    JOIN TRIOND - IT'S FREE

Triond is an online publisher of articles, fiction, poetry and more. When Triond publishes your poem(s) they will put advertising on the page. The more people who view your poetry and the ads, the more you will be paid. Triond's services are free to writers. Familiarize yourself with their submission requirements. Unlike other sites, they also accept WordPerfect document submissions.

  3. Step 3

    POLISH

Fine tune your work. Make sure it's exactly as you want it. Make sure your spelling and grammar is either correct or intentional. If you wish to display a photo with your poem, select one. Triond provides detailed instructions on how to add a photo to your submission.

  4. Step 4

    SUBMIT

Complete the submission process. Wait for confirmation you have been published. If you're having a hard time waiting, you can check the status of your submission by viewing the Content section of your account.

  5. Step 5

    MARKET

Your poem has been published. Now it's time to start marketing it. The fastest way to drive up visitor traffic is to tell people. Tell everyone. Notify family and friends of your publication. Join forums of all kinds and add a link to your signature. Every time you post, you'll be promoting your work. Join social networks for poets. Create a Myspace and Facebook profile with links to your published poems. Make friends on Triond and exchange links. Look into sites like Digg and Stumbleupon.

  6. Step 6

    EXPAND

Don't stop with one poem. The more poems you have published, the more visitors you are likely to have. When a visitor likes a piece they may choose to read more of your work. Don't let them down and miss a great opportunity.

  7. Step 7

    DIVERSIFY

Once you have established a small following, you may choose to use the profits you've earned on Triond to pay for a small print publication of your work. Poetry books can be sold on Etsy or from your own personal website. When you publish on Triond, you retain the rights to your work.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't be frightened by the submission process.
  • Market your work for optimal earnings and exposure.
  • Make friends with fellow writers of all kinds. Exchange links.
  • Don't be afraid to tell people about your work.
  • MARKET! It's Free. Without marketing your poems will not be seen.
