Here you will learn how to start a cross stitch project from a kit.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Purchase your packaged cross stitch kit. When you get home open the package and verify that all the items needed are there. Each kit should come with a Needle, Aida Cloth, Thread, Thread Card, and Design Chart.

  2. Step 2

Separate all the colors of Thread and place on the Thread Card. This makes it easier to work with later.

  3. Step 3

Tape the edges of your Aida Cloth so that the Material doesn't Fray.

  4. Step 4

Fold your fabric in half vertically and then fold it in half horizontally to find the center of your fabric. Place a piece of thread to mark the center.

  5. Step 5

Count the spaces on the design chart up to the top. Then count over to the far left corner. This is your starting point. Now you will do the same on the Aida Cloth.

  6. Step 6

Thread your needle with two strands of thread. Strands are typically made up of 6. Thread your needle and your half way there. The color you will use is notated on the chart as well as the symbol. Each Symbol has a different color associated with it.

  7. Step 7

To begin stitching you do not tie knots. You will simply stitch over the loose thread. To make the X you will insert the needle in the first hole and go down in the next hole diagonally. Then come up in the hole underneath the previous stitch. You will continue this tell you reach the last symbol with that color. Then you will reverse the same action. To tie off you will slide the needle under the stitches just made.

  8. Step 8

When your project is done just frame it and enjoy the beautiful item that you just created. Or give it as a gift and share the joy.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are doing a large project break the item down into sections
