Revitalize Your Work

Remember your first day on the job? Everything was new. The work environment was exciting and co-workers were so cooperative that you looked forward to coming to work each day with a combination of joy and curiosity. However, after several months or years, the job seems repetitive and uninteresting. You're tired of office politics and are fed up with co-worker complaints about the company and each other. If this sounds like your situation, all is not lost. You can revitalize your interest in work, get out of the doldrums and get your groove back, or just figure out how to change your situation so it brings more satisfaction. Consider these 5 steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Notebook and Pen
  • Career Roadmap
  1. Step 1

Make the first move. Take hold of your job and review any strategies for achieving goals and completing remaining action steps for this year.

Revitalize your relationships. Make an effort to re-connect with others at work. Identify ways to rekindle enthusiasm, repair broken relationships and make new ones. Be deliberate about this. Set a goal to touch base and revitalize your relationship with at least one person each day.

  3. Step 3

Upgrade your skills. Take advantage of any training opportunities that become available over the next few months. Spend some time polishing your strengths. Don't waste a lot of time on your weaknesses unless these items were included in a development plan.

  4. Step 4

Leave the past behind. Resist the urge to brood over your failures this past year. Instead, be proactive; work on the things and only the things that will help you succeed.

  5. Step 5

Stay the course. I know it's hard to get back into the swing of things after a failure or mistake, but you absolutely must get on with life. Keep at your goals; stick with your plans and make course corrections as appropriate. Don't give up!
