Celebrate Independence Day

On July 4th, take the opportunity to share the meaning of Independence Day with your friends and family.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer or a copy of the Declaration of Independence.
  • Time to spend with your family
  1. Step 1

Buy a copy of the Declaration of Independence, or print it out on your computer. Take a minute to reflect on the courage of the men who signed it, and explain to your children, that each of these leaders risked being hanged for treason.

  2. Step 2

Take your family to a parade. Listening to the band play "Stars and Strips Forever" as the flag of the United States passes by, reinforces our love and loyalty to our country - our patriotism. After the parade, talk about how lucky we are to live in the greatest country in the world.

  3. Step 3

Spend the evening in a nearby recreational area camping out. Along with the hot dogs and hamburgers, make sure you include a "birthday cake" or cupcakes to celebrate our nations birthday. Away from the television and interruptions, encourage your children to discuss the holiday, and answer their questions.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you explain the holiday in a way that your children can understand
  • If you have photographs of yourself, or relatives who members of the military, share them with your children, and explain how brave they were to risk their life to protect our freedoms.
