Things You'll Need:
- attention to prices
-
Step 1
Look for a used book store in your community. Many of their books have been read one time and look brand new. Why pay full price when you can pay half price? Also frequent garage sales for the same reason.
-
Step 2
If you are purchasing books at a booksigning, the author willl usually give you a price break if you are purchaisng two or more of his/her autographed books for gifts. Don't be afraid to ask.
-
Step 3
Shop at a bookstore that offers cards for discount purposes. If you buy more than three books a year, they are almost always worth the money you invest in them plus you save more. Once you get the card which usually provides 10-15% off and more on specially advertised dates, use it to purchase books to put away for future birthdays, Christmaspresents, etc. you can really rack up savings on these special sales days.
-
Step 4
Join a book club and get books for substantially less and membership is usually free. You will have to commit to buying a certain number of books a year, but if you are going to purchase several books anyway, why not get them at a discounted price?
-
Step 5
Check on line at Amazon.com., Barnes and Noble's bn.com, bordersrewards.com and Books-a-Million, etc. You can also find books for less prices if you go to the author's website.

on 7/14/2008 I trade books with my girlfriend after we read them. It is like a small reading circle. Ask your family and friends if you see a book on their shelf that looks interesting.

on 7/1/2008 As a retired librarian, I have to point out the biggest savings on books is getting a public library card for free. Of course, I also love owning books and can use your advice for that. 5 stars.
