You have these beautiful gold plated faucets in your bathroom. Sure they add elegance to your bathroom, but they are gold plated. Gold plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal by chemical or electrochemical meals. This is a thin layer, so how do you clean it without taking off the gold plating. Here is how to clean gold plated items:

Things You’ll Need:

  • Vinegar. mild dish washing liquid, mild liquid hand soap, Awesome, Windex, soft towel, old tooth brush

Step1
Go your local dollar store, there is an item called Awesome, purchase this item, it comes in a spray bottle and is easy to use.
Step2
Always test your cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area before applying to the entire surface. Spray a small amount on a soft clothe and apply to the bottom of the faucet. wipe it clean to check for any damage. If satisfied with the test result, spray the entire faucet with the product.

Rinse the area with warm water and towel dry

Find a mild dish washing liquid, Ivory brand is always a good choice for a mild dish washing liquid. Obtain a soft old toothbrush you will need this to clean the surface of the faucet. Pour some of the dish washing liquid into a bucket with warm water, then use the soft tooth brush to gently clean the surface. Assure that you get into all the crevices and underneath the faucet for a thorough cleaning.
Rinse with clean warm water. After you have cleaned the surface and rinsed it with warm water, take a soft towel to dry. Do not allow the the water dry naturally, it will spot. Assure that you use a soft towel to buff it to a shine

Tips & Warnings

  • Cleaning the gold plated items are not hard at all, you just need to use some common sense. Abrasive cleaners will strip the gold and destroy the finish. Use a soft clean towel to buff your gold plated items back to a brilliant shine
  • Never use a cleanser or hard abrasive on your gold plating, they will remove the gold plating and leave your stuff looking horrible.
