Has your computer ever gotten stuck in a continous loop of configuring updates since you started using Windows Vista? Every time you startup your computer it immediately goes to configuring updates, you cannot prevent it or stop it. Periodically, it shuts down and restarts but never finishes configuring updates. You may have pushed the F10 key during startup and tried to start your computer in safe mode, but even that did not work. It just went to configuring updates anyway. You may have pushed F10 and tried to restore a previous version of windows that worked, but that did not stop the looping either. Did you run a complete scan on the computer too, if not don't bother. So what can you do to stop the continuous loop of configuring updates in Windows Vista?

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Laptop
  • Windows Vista 32 or 64 bit disk
  • Patience
  1. Step 1

Find the Windows Vista disk that came with your new computer. If you cannot find it call 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no charge for support calls that are associated with security updates.

  2. Step 2

Put the disc in the disc drive while the computer is turned on.

  3. Step 3

Hold the on/off button down until the computer shuts down.

  4. Step 4

Push the on/off button again and begin pushing the ESC key immediately to prevent the computer from loading windows from the hard drive.

  5. Step 5

You need to change the order of the boot setup. Use the arrow keys to get down to boot setup. Push enter on boot setup. Find boot from disc and use the arrow kets to get to it.

  6. Step 6

Push F6 to move the boot from disc option to the top. Make boot from the hard drive as number two. Push the ESC key. The computer will ask you if you want to save changes and exit. Use the arrow key to highlight yes, and push the enter key.

  7. Step 7

You computer will now boot from the windows disc. It will create a file called old windows and window. The old windows will have all of your data safe in it, so don't worry. Once you complete setup of windows, you can move your data from old windows to windows.

Tips & Warnings
  • Backup your system often.
  • Keep important files updated on disk, internet, or flash drive.
  • You may lose all of your data saved on your hard drive.
  • Turn off the automatic updates feature.
  • This is time consuming.
