When strawberries come into season, it's time for making all the delectable fresh-strawberry desserts you've waited for all year. There's strawberry shortcake, strawberries and cream, strawberry ice cream and the glazed strawberry pie. Made with a pre-cooked crust and a simple glaze that surrounds the fresh fruit, strawberry pie is even more convenient when the smoothness of the filling is enhanced with strawberry-flavored JELL-O. Things You'll Need

  • 1 pie shell, baked and cooled
  • 1 qt. ripe strawberries
  • Paring knife
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • 3-oz. package strawberry JELL-O
  • Saucepan
  • Spoon

Instructions

      Prepare the strawberries by rinsing them in cool water and then hulling them. With the paring knife, cut the strawberries in half, slice them or leave them whole.

      Place the sugar, cornstarch and water in the saucepan and bring it to a boil, stirring until thickened.

      Stir the strawberry JELL-O powder into the mixture until it dissolves and then let the mixture cool slightly.

      Arrange the strawberries in the bottom of the baked pie shell however you like by making a pattern or spreading the sliced strawberries evenly onto the crust.

      Pour the JELL-O mixture over the strawberries.

      Refrigerate the strawberry pie until it is chilled and the pie filling is firmly set.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add a drop or so of red food coloring for a more deeply-colored pie.

  • Strawberry pie needs to be kept under refrigeration.
