Things You'll Need:
- Sharp shears with a short blade
- Wide toothed comb
- Long bangs
- Water spray bottle (optional)
-
Step 1
Separate the bangs from the rest of the hair by tying the other hair into a ponytail or putting it in a clip. It's important not to allow the rest of the hair to mix in with the bangs. That's how the mullet was invented.
-
Step 2
Comb the bangs forward, and without pulling or holding them snip a piece in the center to act as a "guide." Cut your guide to the length you want the bangs. Later, when you spray it, you will be surprised by how long this piece is. Hair shrinks up a lot when it's dry. Many ugly bang trims have taken place when cut without a guide.

Step 3
A "No Tension" Fringe Trim can Prevent Lopsided Curl-UpsSpray the hair and comb with a wide tooth comb. For straight or wavy hair, hold it between the first two fingers while you snip, in small sections, to match the length of the guide. For curly hair, simply de-tangle and allow it to hang while snipping to match the guide. Curly hair tends to spring up and look much shorter. This technique of cutting it while it hangs is called "no tension" and even though each piece might vary in actual length, they end up hanging to the same length when they're dry because each curl has a different width. (some places are curlier than others)

Step 4
Kids Should Not Do Their Own Bang TrimAllow the bangs to dry naturally, unless you're in the habit of blow drying the bangs. When you see how they look after drying on their own, consider touching them up. Sometimes after they've dried you can see little imperfections that weren't obvious when the bangs were wet.
