How to Wrap an Injured Paw

  1. Step 1

Take your animal to the veterinarian if they are bleeding a lot or if they are in excruciating pain. No one wants to see their pet hurt especially if it is in the middle of the night. The only place that is open is an emergency room for pets it can get very expensive. It is up to you to decide if your pet is injured too bad.

  2. Step 2

Talk to your dog and try to sooth him sometimes comforting the animal will help them relax enough. Using the damp rag try and clean the wound but be very gentle. If your dog is relaxed enough then you should be able to wrap the injured paw with gauze and an ace bandage with no problems.

  3. Step 3

Ask someone that you know for help if your animal is not wanting to cooperate, but is not being to aggressive. Using dog treats the help you recruited can slowly keep giving your dog treats while you are wrapping the wound. This will keep your pet's mind off of what is going on, because they are focusing on the treats.

  4. Step 4

Hold the animal down; this will only work if you have at least one other person to help you. If you own a larger dog than two or more people will be needed. This will also need to happen if your dog is really aggressive, no matter what size they are. Just remember your pet is scared and to be as nice as possible.

  5. Step 5

Keep the wound clean and wrapped up is extremely important. This will keep your animal from licking the wound and running around getting dirt and other debris in there. If the wound gets worse or infected your pet will need to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not spray any antibiotic ointment on the wound this will hurt them; just clean with water.
