Connecting Spirit with Form in Tantra

  1. Step 1

Practice Tantra Kundalini Yoga, reconciling the masculine and the feminine. Liberation, connection of spirit and form, occurs by awakening Shakti from the base of the spinal chord, up the chakras to union with Shiva, the masculine principle, in the crown of the head. This is tantric bliss, Shiva-Shakti.

  2. Step 2

Perform Tantric rituals. Mudra (symbolic hand gesture), nyasa (divinization of the body), yantra (geometric images) are examples of elements of tantric rituals. In Guyan Mudra, the tip of the thumb touches the tip of the index finger. Knowledge and ability are promoted, imparting a sense of calm and receptivity.

  3. Step 3

Perform Puja with flowers, food and fragrances. Although Tantric Pujas are complex, generally flowers symbolize attributes to cultivate, such as restraint and generosity. The flowers are related to the body's chakras.

  4. Step 4

Use simple accessories that relate to the five elements of Tantra and to the five senses. The Shani Puja, for example, uses incense, flowers, flame and water. The connection of the materials or forms is with the yogin's inner, meditative state and with his sense impressions.

  5. Step 5

Study Tantra regarding sexuality. Find an authentic Tantra teacher. Sexuality is a component of Tantra teaching and practice. It is the union on masculine and feminine, Shiva-Shakti. Divinity is in the body.

Tips & Warnings
  • Popular notions of Tantric Sexuality are not considered to be true Tantra as found in Hindu and Buddhist Tantra practices
  • Consult with a health care practitioner before beginning yoga
