Step 1
Sleep only when you are tired. This may sound like a silly rule, but many people take naps throughout the day when they are not tired. This disrupts your body’s natural cycle and may be the cause of any sleeping disorder you are suffering from.
-
Step 2
Wake up and go to bed on a regular schedule. This means going to bed at the same time each night, without fail. It also means setting the alarm for the same time, even on weekends, and not hitting the snooze button to sleep in.
-
Step 3
Drink only beverages that don't contain caffeine and nicotine in the evenings. These two stimulants can twist the body’s natural cycle into a knot and bring on poor sleeping habits, which will lead to sleeping disorders.
-
Step 4
Get out of bed, if after 20 minutes you are unable to fall asleep. Doctors generally believe it is unhealthy to lie in bed when you cannot sleep. It keeps the bedroom from being a relaxing place, which leads to poor sleeping.
